Arsenal manager was ‘the dude’ in Monaco days

A video has emerged of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger smoking on the sidelines during his time in charge of AS Monaco. Wenger spent seven years at the helm of the Ligue 1 club, with an intervening season in Japan, before he moved to the Premier League to became manager of Arsenal.

The timing of this video going viral is laden with irony given the recent problems Wenger has had with his player smoking.

The most recent case came to light after a photo of Jack Wilshere holding a shisha pipe was posted on Instagram, however, this wasn’t the first time the England midfielder has been caught smoking.

Arsene Wenger also dropped keeper Wojciech SzczÄ™sny in favour of David Ospina for similar smoking-related reasons. While the manager refused to cite the player’s misdemeanour for decision to opt for Ospina, it’s hard to accept that the Polish international’s penchant for a cigarette didn’t have some sort of say in the matter.
