Arsenal move ruled out by Aulas

Lyon midfielder Yoann GourcuffLyon have said that Arsenal target Yoann Gourcuff will stay at the club until at least the end of the season.

The Gunners have been long linked with the French midfielder and are reportedly preparing a move to bring him to the Premier League.

The French giants are rumoured to be financially unstable, which has led to rumours that Gourcuff may be sold on in a bid to bring in funds.

However, club president Jean-Michel Aulas has ruled out a January move for the 26-year-old, stating that his future will be decided later in the year:

“Until June he will definitely remain here, then we will discuss his future.” He is quoted by Sky Sports via

“He has been injured and this is not the time to talk about a move to another club.”

Gourcuff was once dubbed as one of the finest talents in Europe, but a series of injuries stunted his development.

He shot to fame during the 2008/09 season with an impressive loan spell at Bordeaux.

The move from parent club AC Milan was made permanent the following year, and more impressive displays tempted Lyon to splash €22m for his signature in 2010.

Since then he has struggled with ankle problems and has lost his position within the French national set-up.

However, his creative quality is still evident, keeping Arsene Wenger’s interest.
