According to reports in Sweden, Arsenal could revisit their interest in Red Bull Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg this summer.
Swedish outlet Expressen claims Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Arsenal are all chasing Emil Forsberg this summer.
The Swedish playmaker, who has grabbed five goals and four assists in an injury hit season, was linked with Arsenal last summer after a breakout 2016/17 season that saw him grab 19 Bundesliga assists.
It would reportedly take a bid of at least £40million to bring the Swede to North London, but Unai Emery could well see the value in that as he looks to build his Arsenal squad.
Leipzig are desperate to tie him down to a new contract, but Expressen claim the Gunners have already held talks with the player’s agent.
For fans wondering why on Earth Arsenal need another playmaker when they already have Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Forsberg brings an extra bit of pace and drive that would only make Emery’s side even more lethal. Think Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen but faster.
The Swedish international, who has six goals in 33 caps for his country, has struggled with muscle and injury problems this season, and recently missed three games for a suspension, but when he is fit and firing he is a force to be reckoned with.
Forsberg has lit up the Bundesliga in a similar way to Kevin De Bruyne at Wolfsburg, and his incredible crossing and set piece wizardry would provide a lot of fun for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
Unai Emery had multiple top quality players in every attacking position at PSG, and while he might not be afforded the same fortune in North London, the Spaniard will definitely want multiple attacking superstars capable of rotating in to his high press.
If Arsenal want to give Emery the best chance possible to follow in Arsene Wenger’s footsteps, then adding Forsberg to their already formidable attack would be an excellent starting point.
Having spent multiple seasons in Ralph Hasenhüttl’s high-octane system at Leipzig, he is the perfect fit for Emery’s new look high tempo Gunners.
