Arsenal must beat Man United in this transfer tussle, massive reasons why

Arsenal’s need for a new centre-back is well-known. The Gunners after all opened the Premier League season with a player that was relegated from the Championship last season, Rob Holding, and a converted full back, Calum Chambers, at the heart of their backline, so it shouldn’t be a shock that four goals were shipped as they lost to Liverpool.

Of course, an extreme set of circumstances led to this bold call Arsene Wenger had to make, with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel both injured, and Lauren Koscielny not yet fit after a long EURO 2016 campaign with France. Alas, it’s clear that a new face is needed before the close of the transfer window, which has led to intriguing links with Southampton’s Jose Fonte.

However, to nab the 32-year-old, the Londoners will need to beat competition from bitter rivals Manchester United, and although the Portuguese enforcer appears an uninspiring signing on the surface, he is sorely needed…
