In what has been a largely disappointing campaign from a defensive point of view for Arsenal - the Gunners have already conceded 34 goals in the Premier League - it has been little surprise to see them being linked with a whole host of centre-backs in this January transfer window.

Reports in recent weeks have claimed the Gunners have earmarked the likes of Nathan Ake and Dayot Upamecano as potential targets, and it now appears a new man has entered the mix.

According to Mykola Matviyenko's agent, the north London side have been in talks with Arsenal's representatives, and that they are keen to get a deal done for the 23-year-old before the end of the winter window.

After hearing about the links to the Shakhtar Donetsk ace, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.

A couple of fans expressed the opinion that they would rather sign Matviyenko than go for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng, a player who has also been linked with a possible January switch to the Emirates.

A few fans however took particular issue with Matviyenko's height - the Ukrainian stands at just 5 foot 11.

Amidst Arsenal's injury crisis at the back - the likes of Calum Chambers, Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney are all out of action at the moment - it is rather unsurprising to hear Matviyenko's agent claim that the Gunners are interested in securing the services of the Ukrainian ace.

The north London side are in need of quantity, as well as quality, and so whilst he may not be the most high-profile name they could go for, they simply need a body to reinforce their defensive ranks.
