Arsenal NOT looking for new striker

Arsene Wenger will not look to bring a new striker to Arsenal before next week’s transfer deadline passes, even if Olivier Giroud’s injury is a long-term one, according to BBC Sport.

The Gunners lost their French forward at the end of the 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday with an ankle injury.

The extent of the damage is not yet known, but there are fears that he may not playa again in 2014.

Beyond Giroud, Wenger is limited in terms of options, with Yaya Sanogo the only like-for-like option he has. The youngster is yet to score a league goal in over a year at Arsenal, and some have suggested that Alexis Sanchez may be used in the role – albeit after an ineffective showing up top against the Toffees.

But despite this the Londoners have no intention to draft in another hit-man.

Edinson Cavani, Danny Welbeck, Radamel Falcao and even Serbian free agent Nikola Zigic have been linked with moves, but swoops are now unlikely.

Arsenal may assess the loan market, but the chances of getting an experienced player in at this late stage are slim.
