Arsenal offered swap deal for star

Gervinho

Lyon are hoping an offer that would see French midfielder Yoan Gourcuff move to Arsenal will be enough to give them the edge over Roma in the race to sign Gervinho, according to the Daily Mail.

The Italians have already made a formal offer of £6.9million for the Gunners forward, although Lyon are hoping their swap deal offer will be seriously considered.

Gervinho is likely to be sold this summer after failing to impress in the past two seasons at the Emirates, in which he has managed a total of just 11 goals.

The fact Arsenal are in the market for two new strikers also means Gervinho’s playing time at the Emirates next season will be limited.

Roma thought themseleves favourites to secure the Ivorian’s signature, although the emergance of Lyon and the fact they are willing to offer Gourcuff in part exchange is likely to tip the deal.

The French midfielder wants to leave the club, and Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with a move for the 27-year-old in the past, and is therefore likely to find the offer from the French club far more appealing than the straight cash offered  by Roma.
