Arsenal on verge of adding to midfield mettle with £30m deal for red card regular

According to reports from The Telegraph, Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement with Borussia Monchengladbach over the £30million transfer of captain Granit Xhaka.

Indeed, the Switzerland international has averaged the most passes per match of any non-Bayern Munich player in the Bundesliga this season, but also picked up three red cards in 27 league appearances.

Arsenal have been linked with the 23-year-old continuously throughout the campaign and the latest reports from The Telegraph claim they’re on the verge of reaching an agreement with the Bundesliga outfit.

Gladbach had hoped to pick up £35million for their tough-tackling skipper but Arsenal value him at £25million and it appears the clubs are now prepared to meet in the middle.

Xhaka is being acquired as competition for Francis Coquelin in the holding midfield role, with Bosman-bound veterans Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini set to leave the Emirates on free transfers this summer.
