Arsenal are very close to making experienced Romanian striker Ciprian Marica their second signing of the summer, according to the player’s agent.
The 27-year-old was released by Schalke at the end of last season, but is now said to be on the verge of moving to the Emirates.
His agent Giovani Becali told reporters: “He is close to Arsenal, we’ll see this week. Marica is a very good striker, a Romanian national player who has great experience.”
Marica will become Arsenal’s second signing of the summer, if a move does materialise, after the import of French U21 forward Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre.
Sanogo made his debut against Galatasaray in the Emirates Cup on Sunday, but Arsene Wenger is looking to further reinforce his attacking options amid an attacking shake up.
Luis Suarez is still firmly on Arsenal’s radar, while Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho are thought to be on their way to Crystal Palace and Roma respectively.
Marica would offer Arsenal a wealth of experience, having scored 21 times in 58 appearances for his national side and sampled football at Dinamo Bucharest, Shakhtar Donetsk and Stuttgart.
He has scored 79 times in his 333 professional appearances and is believed to be worth around £1.8million.
