Arsenal are reigniting their interest in Malcom and have opened talks with Barcelona regarding a January deal, according to Sport.

What's the word?

Unai Emery strengthened his Arsenal side significantly in the summer but his additions largely focused on the midfield and defence, which has left the Gunners short of options in the wide positions of their attacking line.

A failure to replace Alexis Sanchez after his departure to Manchester United has been evident but the North London side are ready to rectify that issue in January by moving for Barcelona's Malcom, according to Sport.

Arsenal were amongst the club's interested in the Brazilian earlier this year before missing out to the LaLiga champions but an exit for £44m is on the cards with the 21-year-old earning just 25 minutes of action in the league so far.

A good addition?

With Arsenal in the hunt for an exciting and young winger, the possibility of landing Malcom in January will raise optimism and the Gunners could jump at the opportunity to sign a target they missed out on back in January.

However, questions will be asked about Malcom's long-term suitability for the Gunners if they finance an eye-watering deal as Arsenal have seen Alex Iwobi impress, while young starlet Reiss Nelson is excelling on loan with Hoffenheim and looks set for a solid future in North London.

With Emery's side still needing to be strengthened in other positions, a better option may be to recall Nelson from his time in the Bundesliga prematurely and utilise the funds that would be spent on Malcom in different areas of the squad.
