Arsenal plan double transfer raid

Ilkay GundoganArsenal manager Arsene Wenger is plotting moves for Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen pair Ilkay Gundogan and Lars Bender, according to reports from The Mirror.

After securing ta club record deal for Mesut Ozil on deadline day, the Frenchman has now made bolstering his defensive midfield options a priority.

He has set his sights on the Bundesliga pair, and has ordered scouts to assess them ahead of potential January moves.

Wenger is known to be a fan of Leverkusen’s Bender, and some rumours suggest that he made serious moves for his signature over the summer.

The 24-year-old has been one of Germany’s most impressive young talents over the course of the past few seasons, but it is said that he could be open to a move away from his current club.

Gundogan is also on Wenger’s radar.

The deep-lying playmaker has been key to Dortmund’s recent successes, and even netted a goal in last season’s Champions League final – albeit a consolation in their 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old is seen as the ideal player to usher in a new period of success at the Emirates Stadium, and Wenger is hopeful that the presence of Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker can help him to complete a deal.
