Arsenal plan January raid for Belgian ace

Chrstian Benteke (Aston Villa)Arsenal are ready to launch a January move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Despite seeing his side sit atop the Premier League table, Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is keen to delve into the transfer market in the New Year.

A new forward is believed to be at the top of his wish list, with Benteke a prime candidate.

Olivier Giroud has been in razor-sharp form for the Londoners this term, but Wenger is thought to be worried by the lack of support he has for the Frenchman.

The burly Belgian is seen as the ideal man to add another dimension to the table-toppers’ attack, which has prompted rumours of a January offer.

Benteke only penned a new contract at Villa Park over the summer, but Arsenal are confident that he can be persuaded to leave the Midlands.

Tottenham are also keen, and are likely to oppose any move made by their local rivals.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fine debut season during 2012/13, in which he bagged 23 goals for Villa – 19 of which came in the Premier League.

He is expected to travel to next year’s World Cup, but Arsenal are keen to tie up a deal before then.

Could Christian Benteke be just the man Arsenal need?
