Arsenal plan January swoop for Barcelona ace

Barcelona defender Martin MontoyaArsenal are plotting a January move for unsettled Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya, according to reports from The Metro.

The 22-year-old’s current contract with the La Liga champions expires at the end of the season, and, as of yet, an extension has not been agreed.

Montoya is believed to want assurances over his role within the first-team, with Daniel Alves currently holding down the right-back berth.

The youngster is desperate for regular game time, and knows that his chances of securing a move will be increased if he becomes a free agent.

But, Arsenal are ready to move before than to snap up the talented Spaniard.

Arsene Wenger is believed to have cash to spend this winter in a bid to further strengthen his squad.

Barca value Montoya highly, but are said to be willing to do business for around £3m rather than let him leave for nothing next summer.

The defender made just 15 appearances for the Catalan giants last term, but impressed during his fleeting spells of action.

Liverpool are also interested, but the Gunners’ ability to offer Champions League football may prove to be a key factor.

Italian outfit Inter Milan are monitoring the situation.
