Arsenal plot shock Blues swoop

Fernando Torres Chelsea Striker

Arsenal are interested in signing striker Fernando Torres this summer, according to the Mirror.

New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is happy to sell players at the Premier League side, including the Spaniard.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has shown an interest in the striker, who has struggled since leaving Liverpool for the Blues. Wenger eyes Torres as an ideal strike partner for Gonzalo Higuain, who looks set to move to the Emirates.

Rumours at Stamford Bridge have suggested that Mourinho only has 5 players he believes are certain starters ahead of the new season. David Luiz and Juan Mata are reportedly not included in that list.

Arsenal are keen to spend big this summer in an attempt to mount a title challenge, and win a first piece of silverware since 2005.

A deal for Real Madrid forward Higuain is almost complete, whilst the North London side have also been linked with a move for Wayne Rooney.

But it seems Torres may be a more realistic option, as the striker, who is on international duty with Spain at the Confederations Cup, is unsure whether he will be kept by Mourinho this summer.

Torres could feature for Spain tonight against Brazil in the final of the international tournament.

Would Torres do well at Arsenal? Should the Gunners give up on Rooney for the Spaniard?
