Arsenal poised to pip rivals Man United to signature of Brazilian maestro

Arsenal are set to pip Premier League rivals Manchester United to the pre-contract signature of Barcelona full-back Dani Alves, according to reports.

Alves’s contract at the Catalan giants expires at the end of the current campaign, which gives the 31 year-old Brazilian permission to open negotiations with other clubs with a view to a pre-contract agreement.

The Gunners and United have both spoken to Alves’s agent over a potential deal, and while the Red Devils were believed to be favourites to land the player with a £15.6million contract offer, it has now emerged that Arsenal will outbid United with a higher weekly wage to secure the full-back’s services.

Alves is free sign the contract at any point and would officially become an Arsenal player in the summer – should he decide to complete the deal.

The Brazilian has made more than 300 appearances for the Blaugrana since signing from Sevilla in 2008, winning multiple La Liga and Champions League titles.
