Arsenal ready £10m Liverpool raid

Arsenal are ready to test Liverpool’s willingness to keep Daniel Agger with a £10m offer, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Danish centre-back has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in recent weeks, with the Reds having moved to sign big money Croatian Dejan Lovren.

With the former Southampton man expected to slot straight into Brendan Rodgers’ team, Agger’s presence now appears unnecessary with Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho also in attendance, as well as younger players such as Sebastian Coates.

It has been suggested that there are no formal bids in place for the classy enforcer as of yet, but Arsenal are ready to break the silence with an opening £10m offer.

With Thomas Vermaelen having been sold to Barcelona for £15m Wenger is desperate to get some cover in place.

Agger is seen as a top option by the Frenchman, even though he has a patchy injury record.

The 29-year-old is understood to have asked for a move, but Liverpool are likely to favour a deal with a foreign side, with Napoli and his former club Brondby thought to be keen.

Tottenham are also in the running, as are West Ham, but Champions League football might tempt the Scandinavian to choose the Emirates Stadium.
