Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is close to signing a new contract that will make him the most well-paid player in the club’s history, according to reports from the Mirror.
The Gunners have been trying to tie Ozil down on a new contract the past few months, with the attacking midfielder previously uncertain of whether he wants to say after three years without a league title.
However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident that the Germany international will extend his current deal, which will push his £140,000-a-week salary to a club record £200,000-a-week.
But the situation surrounding Alexis Sanchez is still unclear, with the Chile winger considering his options amid interest from Bundesliga powerhouses Bayern Munich and Serie A champions Juventus.
Yet Wenger is confident that Sanchez will also be happy with a new contract, which will greatly boost Arsenal’s chances of challenging for the title next term.
Ozil, 27, has made 44 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring eight goals while supplying 19 assists.
