The Gunners have been linked with the Brazilian enforcer for some time, and Arsene Wenger is ready to push ahead with an offer in a bid to get his transfer plans back on track.
So far the Londoners have only finalised a deal for French youngster Yaya Sanogo and have seen offers for other big name players – including Liverpool’s Luis Suarez – knocked back.
Although his attacking line has been Wenger’s main source of concern this summer, a defensive midfielder is believed to be a necessary addition.
Gustavo’s combative nature makes him the ideal man, and his status with Bayern’s squad means that a deal could be agreed.
The 26-year-old’s future at the Allianz Arena looks bleak following the arrival of Pep Guardiola, who has added Thiago Alcantara to him midfield ranks.
This leaves Gustavo behind the young Spaniard as well as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez in the pecking order.
Arsenal can offer the former Hoffenheim man regular first-team action in the run up to the 2014 World Cup, which could tempt him to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League.
After being dropped for Bayern’s first league game of the season, the player himself hinted that there is interest in his signature.
Would Luiz Gustavo address Arsenal’s midfield issues?
