Arsenal are plotting a move for AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca with their pursuits of both Gonzalo Higuain and Alexandre Lacazette faltering, according to reports from Gazzetta World.

The Gunners have been on the lookout for a new hit-man for much of the summer after they missed out on the Premier League title last term.

Higuain has emerged as their major target over the course of the past few days – a €50m (£41.6m) plus Olivier Giroud offer has even been mooted – but their hopes of snapping up the Napoli man have been dealt a blow amid suggestions he’s on the verge of joining Juventus.

As well as this, Get French Football News have revealed that Lyon’s €60m (£50m) asking price for Lacazette has put the buffers on a potential swoop for the Frenchman, leaving the London club in a difficult situation with the new season fast approaching.

And reports now claim that 29-year-old Milan forward Bacca is a target, despite West Ham’s desire to snap him up.

The Colombian is thought to be in talks with the Hammers, but it’s already been claimed that he’s rejected one contract offer from them, while he’s also revealed that his “dream” is to play in the Champions League, something the Irons cannot offer.

This seemingly puts Arsenal ahead of their city rivals for Bacca, who has developed a reputation as one of the finest goalscorers in European football during spells with Sevilla and Milan.

Although he is now nearing 30, 18 goals in 38 league matches last term is a fine return, so he could be a good short-term option for Arsene Wenger.
