Arsenal ready to offload £65,000-per-week star

Arsenal are finally ready to ditch injury-plagued midfielder Abou Diaby when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to reports from The Sun.

The 28-year-old Frenchman has managed a meagre 16 league appearances since the start of the 2011/12 season, with over 40 separate injuries during his nine years at the club having had a major impact on his development.

Diaby pockets a salary in the region of £65,000-per-week, and it’s believed that such a sum for a player with his level of fitness concerns is no longer seen as viable by the London club, who are keen to clear out the deadwood as they plot to make summer signings.

The enforcer has shown signs of promise when brought into the team by Arsene Wenger, but the Gunners chief is thought to have finally run out of patience with his star.

His contract, which expires in June, will not be renewed, and he could be followed out of the exit door by one of Mikel Arteta or Mathieu Flamini.

Diaby arrived at Arsenal from Auxerre in 2006 and has represented France on 16 occasions.
