Arsenal ready to steal Spurs’ summer target

Arsenal are ready to hijack local rivals Spurs’ summer move for Cologne defender Kevin Wimmer, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Austrian centre-back has emerged as a target for the Lilywhites in 2015, and it’s believed that the White Hart Lane side are on the verge of snapping him up ahead of the looming transfer window.

However, despite landing Brazilian star Gabriel Paulista over the winter, Arsene Wenger is aware that he needs more centre-back options this summer.

And Wimmer has come out as a target for the Frenchman, who is keen to lure him to Arsenal.

The 22-year-old has received glowing reviews from current Emirates Stadium star Per Mertesacker, which is believed to have swayed Wenger.

Austria manager Marcel Koller recently suggested that the youngster is set to join a Premier League side, although he didn’t reveal the identity of the team:

“He moves in the summer to England.” He said.

“With his young age he still has potential to improve. He has it all. He is very calm – not rushed.”
