Arsenal ready to turn to Chelsea outcast

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is pondering an end of season move for Chelsea outcast Petr Cech after losing patience with Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The Gunners’ goalkeeping situation has been thrust back into the limelight of late, with revelations of their Polish star’s fine for smoking in the dressing room after the New Year’s Day defeat to Southampton.

Wenger is believed to have already been considering his No. 1’s role before the incident, and could bomb him out of his XI for the remainder of the season in favour of summer arrival David Ospina.

Although the Colombian is highly-rated at the Emirates Stadium, the French chief is keen to bring in an established stopper, with Cech an option.

The Czech Republic international has lost his starting role at Chelsea since Thibaut Courtois’ comeback, and is understood to be free to choose his next club at the end of the season.

Jose Mourinho is willing to accept offers in the region of £5m, but will not let the 32-year-old leave this month following Mark Schwarzer’s exit.

Cech is eager to stay in England, with remaining in London his specific wish – further opening the door for Arsenal.

Liverpool are also interested.
