The Gunners captain – who is currently out of the side due to an ankle injury – will be out of contract at the Emirates Stadium outfit at the end of the season.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted on Thursday he wanted Arteta to put pen to paper on a new deal and stay at the club for another season at least, and the 33-year-old has now said that talks about his future will commence soon – although he is focused on regaining full fitness first.
“My only aim is to get back fit and try to perform on the pitch,” the Spaniard said.
“In May, when everything is fine, we will sit down and talk and it will take five minutes.”
Arteta will be hoping he is able return to the first-team fold for the final weeks of the season as second-placed Arsenal aim to put pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea as well as retian the FA Cup. The Gunners face reading in the semi-finals of the competition at Wembley on Saturday.
