Arsenal risk losing out on long-term target

Real Madrid Striker Gonzalo HiguainAfter months of speculation, Arsenal risk missing out on Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain with Rafa Benitez’s Napoli ready to pounce, The Metro newspaper reports.

Napoli are one of the few clubs in Serie A awash with cash after selling star striker Edinson Cavani to mega rich Paris Saint Germain for a humongous £55million. That could spark a transfer merry-go-round to the detriment of Arsene Wenger’s men. The rumours were sparked by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis who replied to a Twitter question regarding Higuain as ‘it’s true (that talks were ongoing)’.

Losing out on Higuain would undoubtedly test some Arsenal fan’s patience with regards to Wenger’s transfer policy. After pursuing Julio Cesar and looking like favourites to sign him, Napoli came in with a last minute offer. Lighting looks set to strike twice.

After reports last week that new Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti wished to keep Higuain at the Bernabeu, it now looks as if a move away from Spain is back on for the Argentine forward. A week is a long time in football and it now looks as if Naples is a more likely destination than London for a player who had to share his playing time with Karim Benzema last season. Despite this, the French born forward still managed to score 19 goals last season.

Arsenal fans how would you feel if you lost out on Higuain?
