Arsenal have held secret talks with Sergio Ramos’ agent ahead of a potential deal for the Real Madrid centre-back.
The experienced Los Blancos star recently snubbed a new two-year contract at the Bernabeu, which has plunged his immediate future with the European Champions into doubt.
Chelsea have been alerted by the situation with Jose Mourinho a fan of the defender he coached while managing in Madrid, but Arsenal are understood to be in the hunt.
A January move is believed to be unlikely, yet there are suggestions that Real may cash in at the end of the season should they be unable to tie their man down to a new deal.
And respected AS reporter Manuel Esteban Manolete has now revealed that the Gunners have been talking with Ramos’ agent, and brother, Rene:
“Wenger has called Rene Ramos, the agent and brother of Sergio Ramos,” he told La Goleada.
Wenger is known to be in the market for a new centre-back, with a spate of injuries having exposed a lack of cover at the back.
