According to The Sun, Henrikh Mkhitaryan will return to Arsenal from his loan spell at AS Roma unless they reduce their valuation of him.

What's the word?

The Armenia international is on a season-long loan with the Italian giants, after struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular in his time at the Emirates.

Mkhitaryan managed just 19 starts in the Premier League last season under Unai Emery, and is out of contract in the summer of 2021. The Sun claim the midfielder is keen to sign for Roma on a permanent basis, but that the Serie A side are not willing to meet the £20m asking price placed on his head.

The report further adds that an offer of £8.5m was rejected last month, and that Roma are "unlikely to submit an improved bid for a player of Mkhitaryan’s age about to enter the final year of his contract".

Cutting your loss

Make no mistake about it, Mkhitaryan's struggles in an Arsenal shirt are a symbol of everything that has gone wrong with the Gunners in recent seasons. On a reported £180k-a-week deal, with very little in terms of on-the-pitch product to show for it.

In 59 total games for the north London side, he has managed just nine goals and 13 assists, and so it was little surprise to see him be shipped out to Roma on loan. But heading into the summer, he will have just a year left on his contract, and if the Gunners don't move him on then, he could very well sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club come the January transfer window.

With no Champions League football for the club yet again this season, finances no doubt are very tight at the Emirates. It is why they can ill-afford to lose a player for nothing. And that is absolutely why Arsenal must back down on their stern £20m valuation of Mkhitaryan, and simply cut their losses on him this summer and get at least some bit of money. It's a case of potentially losing the battle, but winning the war.

Meanwhile, this Arsenal man is finally proving his worth for the team.
