Arsene Wenger has confirmed that both Francis Coquelin and Chuba Akpom have signed new deals to end speculation surrounding their Arsenal futures.
The young pair are believed to have been discussing terms with the Gunners behind the scenes in recent weeks with their previous deals having been set to expire at the end of the season.
Coquelin has been particularly impressive in recent times, with his return from a loan spell at Charlton in December having allowed him to cement a spot in the first-team squad.
Akpom, although featuring less frequently, has been tipped for a big future at the Emirates Stadium for some time, and has shown glimpses of his quality in his four outings since the turn of the year.
And speaking ahead of the north London derby with Spurs this weekend, Wenger confirmed that the two have penned new deals, which completes a successful period of recruitment for Arsenal:
“I am very happy because for me the target during this transfer window was on two fronts.” He is quoted by the Daily Mail.
“The first was to get a defender (Gabriel Paulista) in and we did that. The second is as well to extend the contracts of Coquelin and Akpom.
“That’s what I did as well so we are very happy with what we did.”
