Arsenal are set for talks with Valencia over the coming week with Arsene Wenger keen to snap up defender Shkodran Mustafi before the Premier League season officially kicks off, according to reports from The Sun.
The Germany international, who scored at EURO 2016, has emerged as a target for the Gunners of late with the north London club having been hit with injuries.
Per Mertesacker is set miss a significant amount of game time over the coming months after suffering a pre-season set-back, while Laurent Koscielny’s European Championship campaign with France has left him short of match fitness ahead of the club’s season opener at home to Liverpool next weekend.
And reports claim that talks regarding Mustafi are set to take place in the coming days, with Wenger keen to get him on board as soon as possible.
The 24-year-old is valued at around £25m, but Arsenal’s opening offer for him fell short of Los Che’s demands.
Alas, they appear confident that a deal can be struck for the former Everton youngster, who has shone in Serie A and La Liga since leaving Merseyside.
