Arsenal are likely to beat Everton to the signature of impressive Deportivo La Coruna forward Lucas Perez, with Champions League football set to be a decisive factor, according to reports from Sky Sports.
The Spaniard has emerged as a somewhat surprising target for the Gunners over the course of the past 24 hours, with the London club seemingly keen to get deals done ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
Perez, a versatile striker who is able to play from a wide position or as a No.10, was in excellent form for Deportivo last term, notching 17 goals in La Liga to help the Riazor side avoid relegation – they finished the campaign four points above the drop zone.
Everton have been aligned with the 27-year-old this week but Sky Sports believe that, although talks are at an earlier stage regarding a deal, Arsenal are likely to win the race for Perez’s signature.
Indeed, it’s claimed that the club’s Champions League status will be a major selling point for the attacker, who has a release clause of around £17m in his contract.
