Arsenal set to turn to Ecuadorian star

Morelia winger Jefferson MonteroArsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to turn his attention to Ecuadorian winger Jefferson Montero, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Morelia wide-man is a long-term target for Cardiff, but the Gunners are ready to hijack their domestic rivals’ move should their pursuits of other targets end in disappointment.

Wenger is said to have made Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria his top target, while the likes of Mesut Ozil, Karim Benzema and Julian Draxler are also on his radar.

But, with time ticking away quickly, the Frenchman may be unable to pull off a high profile move.

If he cannot swoop for any big name players, Wenger could move for Montero.

The 24-year-old is available for around £3m, making him a cost-effective short-term solution for Arsenal – who are without Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to injury.

Montero played with current Gunners icon Santi Cazorla at Villarreal prior to moving to Mexico in search of regular first-team football.

He has since flourished in Central America, alerting a number of top European sides.

Meanwhile, Wenger is also thought to be watching Lille forward Salomon Kalou.

The ex-Chelsea man is available for £2.6m, and would provide much Premier League know-how.

Arsenal fans, would signing Jefferson Montero be a good move? Or would it just frustrate you more?
