According to The Sun, new Arsenal boss Unai Emery remains very keen on bringing Ever Banega to the Emirates Stadium.

What’s the story?

As per the aforementioned report, the Gunners were interested in securing the Argentine’s services in the summer, and could revisit a deal for the Sevilla midfielder very soon. The report also states that the 30-year-old is thought to have an £18 million release clause in his current contract with the La Liga outfit.

Emery previously worked with Banega at both Valencia and Sevilla and could be set to reunite with the central midfielder yet again in North London.

If the Gunners were to sign Banega then it’d be a very smart acquisition and a big step forward for Emery in the process of rebuilding this Arsenal squad in his image.

Arsenal for Ever

The arrival of the 65-cap Argentina international would create extra competition for places in the middle of the park and would also provide further quality depth in that part of the pitch.

What’s more, Banega’s familiarity with Emery’s methods could speed up the process of getting this Arsenal team to play in the Spaniard’s preferred style.

With Aaron Ramsey currently on course to become a free agent at the end of the season, the Gunners could soon find themselves in desperate need of a new playmaker. Banega would be the ideal man to take up Ramsey’s berth at the Emirates as he is certainly a player of first team quality, but at 30 years of age, his presence wouldn’t overly threaten the likes of young Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ future at the club.

If Arsenal are serious about supporting Emery’s big project at the club, then signing Banega would be a great way to help the new coach’s progress.
