According to French outlet L’Equipe, Fulham are considering launching a bid to sign Bordeaux right-back Youssouf Sabaly in this January transfer window, and Arsenal should hijackany potential deal.

What’s the word?

The 25-year-old defender has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 outfit in recent seasons and it is unsurprising to see him now garnering Premier League interest. If Fulham could land his signature then it would represent a majorly good bit of business for the west Londoners.

What makes Sabaly such a smart target to pursue is the price tag he’d likely come with. With a Transfermarkt valuation of just £6.3 million, the 11-cap Senegal international could probably be picked up for a reasonable fee.

However, before the Cottagers can seal a deal for Sabaly, Arsenal ought make a surprise swoop for his coveted signature.

Pushing Bellerin all the way

The Gunners could do with a new right-back as neither Carl Jenkinson nor summer signing Stephan Lichtsteiner are up to the task of providing the required level of back up and competition to Hector Bellerin’s first team place.

Unai Emery needs a full-back who can push the first-choice Spaniard to have to be at his best week in, week out, and who can also step up to the plate should Bellerin be unavailable. As things stand, both Jenkinson and Lichtsteiner are defensive liabilities for the north London club when called upon and need to be replaced.

Bringing Sabaly to the Emirates Stadium would be a surprising move for Emery to make but it could ultimately prove to be an inspired one.
