Sevilla and Argentina midfielder Ever Banega has been linked with a move to Arsenal by La Colina de Nervion.
Banega, who has played a part in both games of Argentina’s World Cup campaign, returned to Sevilla at the start of the 2017/18 season.
Banega has asked new Arsenal boss Unai Emery for assurances regarding his play-time, but it appears the 29-year-old is open to leaving the Spanish outfit again this summer.
Banega is a player that Emery trusts, playing under him at Valencia and Sevilla, and is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt.
The Argentine would be another midfield reinforcement for Emery, with the club on the verge of signing Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira.
Banega is an established passer who can play as a defensive midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder, and has been a consistent performer in Europe across his stints at Valencia and Sevilla.
Whilst the midfielder represents a step in the right direction, he has not had a stand-out season since his early days under Emery at Valencia, and his demand for assurances about his playing time could hinder the tactical approach that Emery may take.
Arsenal would be wiser to look for a deal for one of Emery’s former PSG players, Adrien Rabiot. The youngster would likely cost more money, but has the ability to go on and be one of the world’s top box-to-box midfielders.
Rabiot has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League on a number of occasions and would likely be keen to discuss the transfer after his surprise omission from the France World Cup squad.
