According to Le 10 Sport, Arsenal are interested in signing Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.
The aforementioned report claims that the Gunners are intent upon thoroughly scouting Pepe in the coming months. The player has also recently caught the interests of Schalke 04 and Lyon. Le 10 Sport further state that the Ligue 1 club will accept no less than £30 million for the 23-year-old.
The Ivory Coast international is an exciting prospect, and enjoyed a real breakout campaign last time out. Last season, Pepe notched thirteen goals and registered five assists in 36 league outings to mark a fine first campaign with Lille. His good form has endured into the new term too, with Pepe already off the mark and with three assists under his belt in the 2018/19 season.
The stats justify Arsenal’s reported interest, and the North London club would be wise to make a pursuit for Pepe’s signature before his value skyrockets even further.
Not only is Pepe a player with enormous potential, he also boasts the kind of attributes currently lacking at the Emirates Stadium. Unai Emery’s squad contains very few out and out wingers, with Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi the most natural wide men at the club – neither of whom are established in the starting XI.
Pepe’s speed, excellent close control, ability to pick a killer pass and eye for goal all make him a very exciting prospect who could have it in him to take the Premier League by storm. Signing him would be a bit of a gamble, though, given he isn’t massively experienced at the highest level.
However, if Arsenal don’t act soon then they could find Pepe quickly becoming a player beyond their reach.
