Speaking on Sky Sports, former Arsenal man Justin Hoyte has revealed his belief that Mesut Ozil is “perfect” for Mikel Arteta.
The former Germany international has been the subject of intense transfer speculation in recent weeks and months, with suggestions that he could be set to depart the Emirates in the near future.
But the play-maker has featured prominently in the early weeks of Arteta’s reign as head coach, starting every single game under the Spaniard. And now, Hoyte has insisted Ozil’s creativity and ability to bring the best out of others makes him a vital part of this Arsenal side.

He said: “He’s a fantastic player. If I were the manager I would keep him. I think he brings a lot of creativity to the Arsenal team and to the Arsenal attack. If you let him roam around the field, get on the ball, he’ll create chances, bring everyone else into play. He creates everything for Arsenal. When he’s not in the team that kind of drops. Having him in the team is perfect for Arsenal at the moment, especially with the way Arteta wants to play. He’s perfect.”
Much of Emery’s time at Arsenal was dominated by the Spaniard’s apparent unwillingness to trust Ozil in key games, either due to the occasion or the fact it was away from home – a game against Bournemouth last season saw the former Gunners boss admit the clash against the Cherries was too “demanding” for the midfielder.

But Arteta has made a huge song and dance about wanting to get the best out of the mercurial German, hailing his “incredible” attitude. And if he can get him back to the kind of form that saw him provide 19 Premier League assists in that sensational 2015/2016 campaign, then it will be the Gunners who will be the most happy. The loss of Emery may be Ozil’s gain, and if the new Arsenal boss can cajole him better than his predecessor, he really will be “perfect” for them.
