Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil admits it is strange to for him to be cticised to soon after the new season started, according to the Daily Star.
The 25-year-old has failed to live up to expectations this season, despite being forced to play out wide instead of his preferred and most effective number 10 role.
And having impressed in his first year with the Gunners last term, Ozil believes it is unfair to criticise him so soon in to the season.
He told German media outlet DPA: “Ten weeks ago I was elected to the team of the season in England.
“I was world champion. Then it was the summer break and after a few games everything is called into question again. This is strange, but I know what I can offer.
“I don’t play to prove anything to everybody, I play for Arsenal. I have a feeling that I am criticised more, that happend to me in the Bundesliga and also at Real Madrid.”
And the German international has also insists that people must be patient with the Gunners after an indifferent start to the season that has seen them fail to impress in the early stages, apart from their 3-0 romp away to Aston Villa last weekend.
“We have only just started the season, we have new players in key positions,” he added.
“The collective game, which is something I have a lot to do with, cannot then just work well from one day to the next.”
