Arsenal star wants FA Cup to save season

Wojciech Szczesny is desperate for his Arsenal side to keep their season on track with a weekend FA Cup semi-final win against Wigan.

After spending much of the Premier League season at the pinnacle of the table, the Gunners’ top four fate is now out of their hands following a series of below par results, which culminated in a 3-0 loss to Everton on Sunday.

With the victory, the Toffees can now leapfrog Arsenal to take the final Champions League qualification slot if they win their game in hand and match the Emirates Stadium outfit’s results over the remainder of the campaign.

This has frustrated fans of the club, who are now anxious that their side may well end what has been a promising season on a sour note.

But Szczesny says that he and his team-mates are ready to get back on track against Wigan this weekend:

“The FA Cup game becomes massive now. Obviously it is the only trophy we can win.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.

“It would be a massive boost for the club and a lift for the team if we could win it for the fans. We have plenty to play for still.

“We have an FA Cup semi final and we are still in fourth in the Premier League so it is up to us to switch on very quickly, focus and forget about this.

“I think we have to put it behind us and switch on. I hope we can kick on and get back to where we want to be.”
