Arsenal are ready to push ahead with a bid to sign Swansea centre-half Ashley Williams after a fresh round of talks with his advisors, according to Goal.
Williams’ representatives first met with Gunners officials last month, but now reports are emerging indicating that discussions are back on in an attempt to force through a summer move for the Welsh international.
The defender himself is thought to be very keen on a switch to the Emirates Stadium and he is desperately hoping the Swans won’t stand in his way.
Arsenal value Williams around the £8m mark, but the South Wales outfit are understood to be holding out for a fee closer to £12m.
Liverpool have also shown an interest in him, but Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of being reunited again with his former charge look set to be dashed by the Reds owners, as they are reluctant to pay out that kind of money on a player nearing his 29th birthday.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is determined to beef up his side’s defence in the close season with a new goalkeeper, a right-back and a centre-back, with leadership qualities like Williams’ thought to be on his wanted list.
