Arsenal suffer transfer set-back

Zakaria Bakkali (PSV Eindhoven)Arsenal’s hopes of securing a deal for teenage ace Zakaria Bakkali have received a blow, with PSV Eindhoven ready to hand him a new contract, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The 17-year-old has recently emerged as one of the stars of the Eredivisie following a string of impressive displays.

He has also snatched the record of the youngest player to net a hat-trick in the Dutch top tier – previously held by Arjen Robben – following a three-goal haul against NEC Nijmegan earlier this season.

This has seen interest in his signature spike, with Arsenal one of a number of top European clubs thought to be circling.

The Gunners have been linked with a January swoop for the Belgian, but PSV are ready to move to fight off any side keen on his signature.

Bakkali could be handed a new contract to stay at the Philips Stadion beyond his current contact’s expiry in 2015.

In Holland players under 18 cannot pen a contract longer than three years, but PSV are ready to wait until his birthday to make their move.

Manchester City and Chelsea have also been linked with the youngster and could make moves to rival Arsenal.

Could Zakaria Bakkali be a Premier League star?
