Outspoken Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has called for the club to axe Arsene Wenger and bring in Jurgen Klopp following the Gunners’ humbling Champions League defeat at the hands of Olympiacos.
The Londoners slipped to a shock 3-2 home reverse to the Greek side, leaving them without a point from their first two group games – they also lost to Dinamo Zagreb.
The result was the latest in a dismal continental run for the club – they were knocked out at the last-16 stage in 2014/15 by Monaco – which has raised major question marks surrounding Wenger’s ability to set up his team to take on foreign opposition.
And Morgan – who is well-known for his forthright views on the team he supports – believes that Emirates Stadium chiefs should react quickly to bring in ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp, who is without a club, before a team such as Liverpool move for him.
When asked about the German tactician, he told talkSPORT: “Firstly, he is available. Secondly, we understand he is itching to get back in the game.
“Thirdly, Liverpool are likely to part company with Brendan Rodgers and he might be tempted by a club of that stature.
“If you look at what Jurgen Klopp did at Dortmund, he completely transformed that team from a very mediocre German side into one that beat Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga twice.
“This is a guy who is twenty years younger than Wenger who is absolutely ravenous for success with a new club.
“He loves attacking football, so Arsenal fans wouldn’t be deprived of attacking football, but he would make our defence a granite-like defence.”
