Arsenal Target Contemplates Summer Move

Werder Bremen defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has revealed that he may have to leave the German club if they don’t qualify for Europe this season, as reported by Sky Sports.

The former AC Milan centre back rejected a move to an unspecified club in January but with Bremen sitting 11th in the Bundesliga, a summer move may be on the cards.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been a long term admirer of the 24-year-old who has already played over 35 times for Greece.

Manchester United were reportedly also admirers of the no nonsense defender and a move to the Premier League at the end of the season may be the best option for Papastathopoulos as he is desperate for European football once again.

The versatile stopper is concerned with his clubs current form and although he has vowed to do his best to improve it, he knows that if Bremen again fail to qualify for Europe he may have to look elsewhere in the summer.

“I am looking to contribute heavily and give my absolute best to ensure that we end up in the best possible position in the table at the end of the season,” Papastathopoulos told Kicker-Sportmagazin.

“I am under contract at Werder Bremen  and I have ambitions here. But I will need to think about my club future if we fail to qualify for Europe once again.”
