If the recent reports coming from El Chiringuito (via Metro) are to be believed, Edinson Cavani might be close to the exit door at Paris Saint-Germain.

The player has largely been frozen out of the squad in the ongoing season - seeing how he'd only managed to tally 326 minutes across eight games played in Ligue 1 prior to the weekend clash against Monaco.

The same report states that Arsenal are one of the teams interested in the 32-year-old's services, with Mikel Arteta seemingly keen to add a prolific goal scorer to his ranks.

And even though we are talking about a veteran who's slowly but surely heading into the twilight of his career, Cavani is a player hailed by many.

Here's what those who know him best have said about him over the years...

Unai Emery, former PSG & Arsenal manager

Cavani used to play under Emery back in the day, and his performances warranted him heaps of praise from the gaffer.

Of course, the Uruguayan is very well known for his goal scoring abilities and that's exactly what the coach emphasised alongside his hunger for victory.

Here's what he said for the club's official page, as quoted by FoxSportAsia:

"When I arrived in Paris, my aim was to give Edinson confidence. We have worked hard, him above all, to have this extraordinary season.

"But the most important thing, as he himself says, is the team. But of course he's had a great season. He's contributed a lot to the team by scoring a lot. He's a player who has a hunger for victory, he always wants to improve and who never gives up."

Marquinhos, Paris Saint-Germain's defender

As Cavani's teammate, Marquinhos knows the Uruguayan well.

Of course, just like Emery, the Brazilian is clearly impressed by the striker's ability to score goals with ease but it's actually his personality and willingness to give everything for the team, combined with that prolific nature, that make him a genius.

Here's what Marquinhos said for the club's official website, as quoted by Goal:

"Edi was already one of our strongest players, but the number of goals he has scored this season is just unbelievable.

"He works hard for the team, is always very positive and gives everything for his team-mates, which is very important. He has scored some fantastic goals like the one against Bordeaux that was like [Rabah] Madjer or the lob versus Nancy.

"And there is his own special, where he gets to the near post for a finish.

"He is a genius as a goalscorer."

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Paris Saint-Germain's president

Al-Khelaifi is usually not a man of many words and he keeps his statements short and concise.

A similar thing happened with his praise for Cavani but the capital outfit's president said everything he had to say to help paint the picture of the greatness of the player.

Here's what he said of his star back in 2016, as quoted by Yahoo:

"I have great confidence in Edi. This is a great striker, one of the best in the world."

Verdict

Even though he may have fallen out of favour with Thomas Tuchel at his current club, Cavani is still a lethal striker and a player admired by many, as we've seen in the quotes above.

If Arsenal are truly on a lookout for quality reinforcements, they should look no further than the Uruguayan striker.
