Goncalo Guedes’ 2016/17 in numbers

Just a couple of weeks ago Arsenal’s season was looking a whole lot rosier. But back-to-back losses at Everton and Manchester City – both games the Londoners were leading – have seen them tumble to fourth, leaving them just a point clear of Spurs in fifth.

So, with January now just a matter of days away, Arsenal should be dipping into the transfer market, right? Well, The Sun claim that replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is something Arsene Wenger’s side are looking into, with Benfica’s Goncalo Guedes an option.

The 20-year-old has been earning rave reviews for his performances for the Portuguese outfit for a while now, and his stats from this season so far are pretty impressive…

As you can see, in his 14 Primeira Liga outings, the attacker has made 295 passes, created 19 chances and weighed in with two assists. As well as that, he is a tricky player on the ball, as reflected by his 34 fouls suffered, while two goals in a competitive league is no mean feat given his age.

With ‘The Ox’ having not quite lived up to his potential at the Emirates Stadium, Guedes could be a long-term upgrade…
