Arsenal are set to step up their pursuit of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, after the Argentine international admitted that he will be leaving the Bernabeu this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with a host of striking options in recent months, with Arsene Wenger keen to bolster his attacking armoury.
Higuain netted during Real’s final match of the season, a 4-2 win over Osasuna, and after the game confessed that he is looking to move on:
“I am leaving Real Madrid, the decision has been made, I feel the time is right and I want a change of scenery,” he is quoted by the Daily Mail.
“I have not decided where I will go, but the club already know that I want to go. It was my decision.
“I feel that this is the end of my cycle here. I came here for £10million and I am leaving for more.”
Arsenal will face stiff competition from Juventus for the 25-year-old, with the Serie A giants believed to be readying a bid.
Wenger splashed the cash last summer to lure Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski to north London from Montpellier and Cologne respectively, but is still said to be keen on adding reinforcements to his squad.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are also closing in on Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier, who has been attracting interest from Liverpool.
