Arsene Wenger believes the Uruguayan star will vastly improve his squad despite the fact he is banned for the first six games of next season while the lure of Champions League football is said to understandably excite Suarez. However, his current manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted there is no chance the player will be leaving Anfield in this transfer window.
Wenger may face a stumbling block in trying to convince Suarez to remain in England after he blamed the English media for his 10 match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic.
“Ever since I arrived I have felt bad, they (the media) have never judged me for my play but with the attitude that I dive, make protests, racism, everything,” Suarez told a Uruguayan radio station in June.
Any move to Arsenal would illustrate a complete change of heart from Suarez. However, Arsenal remain interested in Argentine Gonzalo Higuain and are well aware that if Real Madrid sell to their rivals for his signature – Napoli, it will then free up funds for Madrid to challenge them for Suarez’s signature.
Any move for Suarez would represent a fundamental shift in transfer policy from Wenger who has preferred to nurture younger players into stars rather than spend big on proven players throughout his tenure at the club.
