Arsenal to make push for Spain striker after 9-month Welbeck injury

The injury to Arsenal star Danny Welbeck is set to see the club make a significant push for Juventus ace Alvaro Morata this summer, according to reports from the Mirror.

Welbeck only came back from a previous injury earlier this year, and England manager Roy Hodgson was keen on taking him to the EUROs with the Three Lions.

However, Welbeck was forced off the pitch against Manchester City last weekend, and it has been confirmed that the attacker has since undergone surgery that will keep him out of action for nine months.

The news is set to force the Gunners to sign an adequate replacement, with Juve striker Alvaro Morata top of the wishlist.

But Real Madrid could activate their buy-back clause for Morata this summer, so if the Spaniard makes a return to the Santiago Bernabeu, Arsenal might turn to Inter Milan ace Mauro Icardi instead.

Morata, 23, has made 45 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 11 goals and supplying 11 assists.
