Thauvin was signed by Lille in January, but was loaned immediately back to Bastia for the remainder of the season.
Seven goals for Bastia, followed by a further three in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup for France has boosted Thauvin’s reputation greatly, leading to Marseille bidding £4.7million for the youngster – an offer that was instantly rejected by Lille.
But speculation that Thauvin could depart Lille have grown after he was left out of the first team squad to play Lorient in the opening match of the new season, which Lille won 1-0.
Marseille are preparing a second bid for the 20-year-old, expected to be around £6.5m. The news may concern Arsene Wenger, who is yet to approach Thauvin. The Frenchman is yet to spend any money in the transfer window either, with the free transfer of Yaya Sanogo the only addition to his squad.
Thavin, who scored in Bastia’s 2-1 loss to Marseille last May is one of the hottest youngsters in Europe, but is yet to make a single appearance for Lille. Wenger will be monitoring Marseille’s bid carefully, and could consider an attempt to hijack the deal.
Meanwhile, Wenger must focus on his first team ahead of their first Premier League match of the season against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Would Thauvin be ready for the Premier League? Should Arsenal sign the youngster?
