Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made signing a new central defender one of his top priorities in the close season and Swans ace Williams is known to be high on his wanted listed.
Liverpool counterpart Brendan Rodgers is also keen to sign the player he once managed at the Liberty Stadium, but reports claim the powers that be at Anfield will not free up the funds needed.
It means that Arsenal are in the box seat to do a deal and the fact they should be able to offer the Wales international Champions League football could also weigh heavily in their favour.
Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham has put Wenger’s men in a great position to finish in the top four and that would appeal to Williams, who will be giving up a Europa League campaign should he leave Swansea.
Swansea are under no pressure to sell and with Williams tied to a long-term contract, Arsenal will have to break the bank to make sure they land their man.
