Arsenal are ready to make a serious move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in the coming days after losing Theo Walcott to injury for the rest of the season, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The England international damaged his Anterior Cruciate Ligament during the Gunners’ FA Cup win over Tottenham on Saturday, and has joined Nicklas Bendtner on the sidelines as the Londoners’ fitness concerns mount.
Meanwhile, star striker Olivier Giroud is also struggling with a knock, while Lukas Podolski only recently returned from a long-term lay-off.
This has seemingly forced Arsene Wenger into pushing forward his plans to snap up a new goalscorer, with Morata on his radar.
The Spanish starlet looks set to be allowed to leave Real on loan for the remainder of the season to gain experience, which has caught the Frenchman’s attention.
Wenger sees the 21-year-old as an ideal short-term option, with an experienced hit-man believed to still be on his radar after a failed summer move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
Morata is seen as one of Spanish football’s top rising stars, and was a key member of Spain’s U-21 European Championship winning team last year.
