Arsenal to use outcast to land dead-ball wizard

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to use unwanted attacker Lukas Podolski as a sweetener in a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Turkey international is one of German football’s most talked about talents, with the 21-year-old’s deadly shooting from set-pieces having won headlines across Europe.

Wenger is believed to be a fan of the youngster, with a summer move on the Gunners boss’ agenda.

However, Bayer are likely to be reluctant to sell their talented midfielder, but Wenger is ready to make Podolski available to alter their stance.

The World Cup-winning forward is currently on loan at Inter Milan after struggling to make any impact at the Emirates Stadium over the first half of this season, and looks unlikely to earn himself a return after a fruitless spell in Italy – he’s yet to score for his new side.

A return to his homeland may appeal to Podolski, and Leverkusen themselves may be attracted to a player of his experience and standing.
